Tracking a Venezuela-linked Tanker Reportedly Pursued by American Maritime Authorities

A uniquely yellow-colored residential building in the background assisted us locate the video.

We are checking images and video posted earlier today that show the aftermath of a alleged car bomb blast that authorities in Russia state killed a senior soldier in Moscow.

Officials in Russia confirmed that Lieutenant General Fanil Sarvarov was inside the car that exploded and that he succumbed to his injuries. A probe is under way.

The initial step to verify the location of where the pictures were from was based on social media reports saying the blast occurred on Yasenevaya Ulitsa in the southern district of the capital city of Russia.

We used street-view imagery on digital map platforms and the local mapping service Yandex Maps to match the unique yellow colour of a nearby apartment building seen in the video.

Identifying additional structures, streetlights and the road configuration confirmed the exact location the footage were taken.

We also checked that the videos were recent and that the visuals had not been manipulated.
