Thrice-crowned award winner Nikola Jokic suffers a 'heartbreaking' knee injury.
Thrice-crowned NBA MVP Jokic endured a "heartbreaking" injury to his knee while the Nuggets lost by a score of 147-123 at the Miami Heat.
The Serbian center sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter following an unintentional coming together with fellow Nugget Jones.
The other player landed on the foot of the big man, who immediately went down to the court grabbing his leg.
The 30-year-old, who leads the league season in boards and dimes, had a score of 21 points and eight dimes in the contest before incurring the injury.
The player will undergo an MRI scan on the following day to assess the seriousness of the injury.
"Right away, he realized there was a problem," commented Denver head coach David Adelman.
"This happens in professional sports. Any player who suffers an injury, that's difficult, particularly a player as talented as he is. We will know more tomorrow."
"We will continue as a team. Of course, at this moment, I am more worried primarily about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing a situation of that nature."
