This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade conducted a Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She deserves this act of mercy. She has committed zero crimes,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of pardons issued since the beginning of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating 6 or 7 apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”
The event, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.
The pig, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a musical verse – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently made “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Future Secured
The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “away from grills and cookware”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to begin the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It embodies the essence of Miami: happy, varied, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are delighted to mark culture and compassion in a way distinctively Miamian.”
Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they celebrated the swine's new lease on life.
