The United Kingdom Ready to Employ Frozen Russia's Assets to Fund the Ukrainian War Effort
The United Kingdom is set to progress with employing the entire amount of immobilized Russia's holdings to support Ukraine's defense operations, Leader Sir Keir Starmer has declared.
In a joint statement, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany stated that this unified step would heighten pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin and compel Moscow to come to the table.
They added that the decision would be implemented in tight collaboration with the United States.
British penalties have immobilized over £25bn of Russian assets since the Russian government began its comprehensive attack against Ukraine in 2022. However, previously, money sent to Ukraine using Russia's funds had exclusively been sourced from profits and interest generated on them.
Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, the French Republic, and the Federal Republic of Germany were in agreement in their aim to push forward toward using the complete amount of the seized Moscow's national holdings to halt hostilities.
He noted that more sanctions soon would apply more pressure on the Russian government.
This statement comes after European Union officials met in the Danish capital previously to debate employing immobilized Russian funds for a 140-billion-euro loan to Ukraine.
In the previous month, American leader Donald Trump urged international partners to take or otherwise use seized Russia's holdings, according to news outlets.
The worth of frozen Russian holdings in the European Union is calculated to be nearly €211bn.

The Russian government executed extensive missile and drone strikes throughout the Ukrainian territory on recently, leading to electricity outages in significant regions of Ukraine's capital, the city, and multiple additional areas.
A pair of individuals were fatally injured and no fewer than 20 people were wounded in the attack, authorities in Ukraine reported.
In a post on X following the incident, Zelensky wrote that the strategic strike focused on public and utility structures.
"What is required is not just talk but concrete steps - from the US, the European Union, and the Group of Seven - in supplying air defence systems and implementing sanctions," he emphasized.
"Every sanction decision undermines Russia's war machine," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
Additionally that day, Zelensky told media outlets he would press Sir Keir to join the weapons procurement program, under which Nato countries acquire weapons from the US to donate to Ukraine.
While commending the United Kingdom's strong support for Ukraine, he said it should indicate firmly that it would participate in the system, as well as apply additional sanctions on the Russian Federation.
