The Red Devils Poised to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival will be seen as a major signing for the Women’s Super League side.
Departure from Bayern has been anticipated since she appeared to be holding back emotions while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top forwards. Per reports, all the paperwork for the transfer have now been completed.
Consistent Goal Threat to Boost the Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s signing is expected to provide a significant uplift to United’s attacking options. She has been remarkably consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with 16 goals.
Building Steam at Carrington
The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club appear to be building positive momentum.
Their recent performances include qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought further business:
- The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become popular figure since joining in 2023.
On the midfielder's new deal, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”
The new defender, having joined from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
