The Hit Drama Announced for 7th Series on BBC
The acclaimed crime series AC-12 will make a comeback for its seventh season, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-episode season created by the show's creator will begin filming in Belfast this spring, according to the network.
Vicky McClure expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "thrilled" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the main trio will be back filming together soon."
The previous series wrapped up in recent years with a finale that attracted over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the Inspectorate of Police Standards, as revealed by production details.
Martin Compston's character, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, these officers will take on their "most delicate case to date."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
Yet, his case might serve as a deliberate distraction from a larger danger still operating in the shadows, the teaser suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the dedicated viewers."
"It's an honor to have had so many followers watch the developments of the unit over six previous seasons and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in the UK is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Actor Responses
The Scottish actor called appearing in the police drama as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the people I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I can't wait to wear the uniform again and get the team back together," he added.
Vicky McClure remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited the show is returning! Can't wait to work with Jed, Compston and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the central trio will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Show History
Line of Duty launched in the early 2010s and evolved into a highly successful television series of the last decade, attracting guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
Broadcasters has not yet announced when the upcoming series will hit screens.
The finale of season six brought the long-running storyline about the hunt for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a close, and producers said at the time there were no intentions for additional seasons.
Nevertheless, the network confirmed on Tuesday that a seventh series is now being produced.
