Slot Asserts He Feels Safe and Retains The Club's Backing Following PSV Eindhoven Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his position after a further convincing defeat against PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their 9th loss in 12 matches, marking the team's worst run since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I've received significant support from management,” the coach stated.
“It's important to change things and secure a win of course but when you're coaching a team and not doing well then it's typical that people question you.”
He added, “I am OK with my situation. This isn't the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it is about time that we improved our results.”
Talks with The Board
Upon being questioned to expand on his dialogues with the team officials, the head coach said:
“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “During our regular discussions I sense the trust. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Response
Slot expressed regret over recurring weaknesses from his Liverpool side in their European defeat, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Curtis Jones was more direct in his view of the team's situation.
“I don’t have the solutions. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones said.
“It’s just unacceptable. I don't have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage now where I simply lack the words.”
He went on, “It's difficult because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase such as this with results like these.”
He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And until it is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“Our aim is to get this team return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all again the values of this club and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”
“However currently, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
