The former Australian Test cricketer Damien Martyn is in hospital and placed in an induced coma following a diagnosis of meningitis.
Serious Health Battle Disclosed
The 54-year-old “is in for the fight of his life”, as stated by ex-AFL star Brad Hardie, who disclosed Martyn’s condition on Tuesday.
“We hope he can pull through because it’s really serious,” Hardie said.
Martyn remains in a serious condition after becoming unwell on Boxing Day and being taken to a hospital in Queensland, according to sources close to the family.

Meningitis is inflammation of the membranes that surround the brain and spinal cord.
An Illustrious Cricket Career
Martyn is considered one of Australia’s most talented batters, featuring in 67 Tests and amassing 4,406 Test runs averaging 46.37 from 1992 and 2006.
The right-hand batter’s unbeaten 88 in the 2003 World Cup final – with a broken finger – was instrumental in Australia's win over India.
He announced a shock retirement in the middle of the 2005-06 Ashes series in England after struggling in the opening two Tests.
