President Trump Calls Loved Ones of Attacked Military Personnel to the Presidential Residence
President Donald Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to attend the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Shooting
Specialist Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, continues receiving treatment in grave state.
Gatherings across West Virginia have been held in their remembrance.
Presidential Offer
The president said he’s proposed a meeting at the presidential residence for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to honor Sarah,” Trump addressed journalists. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Public Support
Community members assembled over the weekend at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both they had been working with the state guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to assist law enforcement in DC.
Remembering Beckstrom
“Sarah was the type of pupil that educators hoped for. She behaved with calm resilience, a contagious smile and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the leader of her alma mater, informed the Associated Press. “She was caring, compassionate and always willing to support those in need.”
Service plans for Sarah are still being arranged.
Judicial Actions and Government Changes
Officials have charged a 29-year-old Afghan national with one count of homicide and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The event prompted the Trump administration to halt asylum applications and halt issuing entry permits to owners of travel documents.
Status of the Airman
The airman, a native of the city, began his service in early 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, per the news agency.
He continues to receive treatment and is “fighting for his life”, West Virginia leader Patrick Morrisey said on a news program.
The state’s top lawyer Bondi stated on Fox News Sunday that she aimed to meet with the family.
Memory of Sarah Beckstrom
Sarah, from her hometown, completed her education from Webster County High in 2023 and began her service not long after, working as a MP with distinction, according to the state guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she definitely had courage,” Morrisey informed the crowd at the vigil. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to be remembered always.”
