Warrick Stock, popularly known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in the city centre on Tuesday afternoon.

Authorities reported the 40-year-old media personality was accosted by a trio of assailants, with one began shooting at him before fleeing on foot.

The motive behind the incident is unknown and no one has been arrested are in custody, according to authorities.

How It Happened

Law enforcement revealed that Stock was attacked as he was exiting a premises close to the city center landmark.

He had been present for hours at the building overseeing the implementation of security systems, which had been illegally inhabited by squatters, as per local media.

"Authorities believe the victim was approached by three unidentified men after parking his vehicle, and they began shooting at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement stated.

Security camera video showed a man with dreadlocks and dressed in what appeared to be a protective services outfit opening fire on Stock before fleeing.

The DJ sought to escape after he was wounded but collapsed across the street.

Officials noted that Stock had an unused firearm and it was not a robbery during the incident.

Key evidence, like cartridges, were discovered at the location.

Authorities have requested eyewitnesses who may have seen the suspects to assist with the investigation.

"Our information indicates they traveled on foot after the attack, and police have been following their trail to establish their destination," added an official.

His family member, a close relative, expressed the family was struggling to come to terms with the loss.

"I am in shock. I don't have words," she said.
"Everyone understood he was a champion for numerous individuals. He spoke out bravely about subjects not many people were ready to tackle. This is a tremendous loss."
