Bullish Wilfried Nancy does not fear dismissal but the Parkhead faithful display fury following derby defeat.
The under-pressure manager stated he had no concerns about the sack, claiming, “I believe we are really close to things turning around,” in the wake of sliding worryingly close to the exit with a convincing loss to the Ibrox side.
Another Meltdown Sees Old Firm Loss
The home side had led the visitors at the interval but a disastrous second period let the Gers to pull level on points with the defending league title holders. Nancy, who was hired from the MLS, has now presided over six defeats in his first eight fixtures.
“The board and I are united with the board,” stated the manager.
Asked directly about his own future, he replied: “I don’t think about it. I think about finding ways to help my team to be good on small moments.
Protest Erupts
The fans displayed their anger – aimed at the dugout and directors – by protesting at Parkhead. The board would be most likely to re-appoint the interim manager, who had a fruitful interim spell before Nancy was hired, if the Frenchman were sacked.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. That is the situation for the moment. But when I say that’s how it is, I am not saying that I am giving up. Absolutely not. The message is the turnaround is near, imminently close to change the narrative.”
“Really, Really Close”
Nancy continues to cling to the fact the side play well for a half at a time. Indeed, but for missed chances they would have been better than 1-0 up. “The performance had merit except the fact that we missed our chances,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I have also to be objective.
“The level we had at certain moments was really, really, really high. This is the reality. I could not speak so positively if it was not the case. But that’s why, regarding outcomes, I said we've seen this before. Which is why I feel a change is coming to a shift in fortunes. Currently: details, details, details.”
“I saw plenty of positives that we did, like today again. The issue now it’s about consistency. My outlook would change the same. That’s why I am convinced the team can to turn things around.”
Opposition Reaction Outlook
Rangers manager played down talk of a championship push even after what seemed like a huge result. “We take it game by game, and we can gradually build momentum,” he said. “The belief in the group is excellent.”
